Phillip R. Grogg, 79, of Washington, IL, a man of honor, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his family, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family at O.S.F. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born on July 4, 1945, in Centralia, IL, the son of Floyd and Hazel Arning Grogg. After the death of his birth mother, a new chapter began when Betty Michels stepped in to fill the void with unwavering love and support. His father remarried Betty, and she became an integral part of his life.

He married Lisa Pudik on June 26, 1976, in Washington and she survives. Also surviving are four daughters: Erin (Matt) Painter of Lexington, IL; Alesha (Jerry) Roy of Mackinaw, IL; Randi (Mike) Lulay of Wahington; and Jessica (Nick) Vander Molen of Warsaw, IN. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren: one brother, Dellis (Gwen) Grogg of Washington, and one sister, Hope (Rocky) Elbert of Metamora. Further surviving are two step sisters, Susan Cowser of Peoria and Kathy Kempton of California, and one step-brother, Dave Grogg. Also surviving is one sister-in-law, Jennifer Grogg. His parents and one brother Richard "Dick" Grogg preceded him in death.

Phillip's journey began in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served with distinction. His exceptional skills as a sharpshooter earned him recognition. Still, his loyalty and integrity truly defined his military career. After his service, Phil transitioned to civilian life with the same sense of purpose, joining the ranks of Steamfitters for Local 353 in Peoria. There, he dedicated over 50 years, not just as a member but as a pillar of the community, and he was admired for his work ethic and the quality of his craft.

Beyond his professional achievements, Phil was a man of diverse interests—He had a love for classic rock, especially the iconic sounds of ZZ Top. His collection of Hot Rod memorabilia and posters was more than a hobby; it was a passion that connected him to a vibrant community of enthusiasts. Phil's love for sports was not confined to the sidelines; he was an active participant in the lives of his children and grandchildren, cheering them on with pride and enthusiasm at every game.

Family was the cornerstone of Phil's life. He was a loving and funny presence, always ready with a helping hand. His handy skills were legendary, and there was no task he couldn't tackle with precision and dedication. Whether he was spending time in his garage, camping with his family, or attending hotrod shows, Phil did everything with a full heart and to the highest standard.

Some of his most cherished moments were spent at his grandson's wedding and hosting his annual 4th of July parties, events that brought together the people he loved most. These gatherings reflected Phil's generous spirit and ability to create joy and laughter wherever he went.

His legacy is one of love, laughter, and craftsmanship. All who had the privilege of knowing him will feel his absence deeply. Still, his influence will continue to resonate in the lives he touched. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of moments that will be cherished and remembered by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
