Philip Silas Nofsinger, an 18-year-old resident of Washington, Illinois, tragically passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026.

He was born on December 1, 2007, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Stephen and Julie Bowman Nofsinger.

Surviving are his parents of Washington; and brothers, Andrew (Cara) Nofsinger, Nathan (Augusta) Nofsinger, and Benjamin (Bethany) Nofsinger, all of Washington, Seth Nofsinger (Vaidehi) of Longview, Texas, and Titus Nofsinger of Washington. Also, he leaves behind his loving paternal grandparents, Charles (Gloria) Nofsinger of Washington, and maternal grandparents, Chester (Janet) Bowman of Eureka, Illinois. He is also survived by his niece, Violet Grace Nofsinger; his nephews, Bridger Alan Nofsinger and Colt Thomas Nofsinger, all of Washington. He is also remembered by three uncles, three aunts, and many cherished cousins.

Philip was a hard worker and had a desire and willingness to help others in practical ways, from yard work to vehicle maintenance. He didn’t do anything halfway, and his work was characterized by a meticulous attention to detail.

He was quite frugal and really enjoyed finding creative ways to reuse almost anything left over from a work project, making the most of every opportunity.

Philip was a thinker and serious-minded, concerned from a young age about the things of eternity. This concern over time led him to the firm conviction that the righteousness of Jesus Christ, imputed to him by faith, is the only foundation that will stand on the day of judgment – “And he who believes in Him shall not be disappointed” (1 Peter 2:6b). All who knew Philip well are confident that he at this moment is most certainly not disappointed.

Philip attended Free Grace Church in Washington, where he was deeply loved by his church family.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 am on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Grace Bible Church in Washington. Visitation will be one hour prior to his service. Burial will follow his service at Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be given to Free Grace Church in Washington.
