Pauline M. Zimmerman, 89, passed from this life at 3:30 A.M. on Thursday, March 01, 2012, at the Eureka Apostolic Christian Home where she had resided since a stroke in June, 2012. Pauline was born May 12,1922, in Marshall County, Illinois, to Lawrence James and Grace (VanDorin) Scudder. She married Elmer V. Zimmerman on August 28, 1943 at St. Mark?s Lutheran parsonage in Washington, Illinois. He survives as does son Keith M. Zimmerman of Washington and her beloved Persian grand-cat Jacques who visited her at the home weekly. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Laura Scudder of Peoria. She attended schools in Marshall County and graduated from Magnolia High School there. She had attended what is now Illinois State University and Brown?s Business College in Peoria. Before her marriage she worked as a management secretary at R. G. LeTourneau in Peoria. In the 1950?s she joined attorney Mel Moehle in Washington when he opened his practice as a legal secretary eventually becoming a paralegal with the firm before retiring in the late 1970?s. In her retirement she played a great game of golf and was active for many years in the Hillcrest Tuesday and Friday ladies leagues and served in many offices of those groups. She became a member of St. Mark?s Lutheran Church in Washington after her marriage and served for many years on the altar guild and assisted with the monthly church paper, "The Marksman." She was a member of both the Order of the Eastern Star and Tazewell County Home Extension for over 50 years each. A gourmet cook, Pauline also enjoyed sewing and tailoring clothes for family and friends as well as embroidery, knitting, and quilting. In the last 20 years she had read over 1870 books becoming a regular at Washington Public Library and their book sales. She loved attending concerts given by her son, a concert saxophonist. Her family deeply thanks the nurses, CNAs, therapists, and staff at Eureka Apostolic Christian Home for their loving and devoted care of Pauline. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. in the sanctuary of St. Mark?s Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main, Washington and one hour prior to services. Funeral services will be at her church with Pastor Dick Hanson officiating on Monday at 11 a.m. with burial following in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Mason-White Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to T.A.P.S. in honor of her lifelong love of cats and dogs or her church?s music fund.
