Paul J. Pieroni, 104, of Peoria, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Paul was born on March 5, 1919, in Muncie, IN, a son of Faust and Sarah (Smith) Pieroni. He married Willaneta Armstrong on March 17, 1950, in Chicago, IL. She preceded him in death on October 28, 2017, in Peoria, IL. His parents and sister, Carla (Pieroni) Oesper, also preceded him in death.
He is survived by his three children, Paul S. Pieroni of Tucson, AZ, Mark (Cathleen) Pieroni of Poway, CA and Beth Schlicksup of Dunlap, IL; nine grandchildren, Ethan Pieroni, Francesca Pieroni, Laura (James) Grange, Maria Pieroni, Anna Pieroni, Christopher (Shefah) Schlicksup, Matthew (Kristi) Schlicksup, Christina (Clinton) Small, and Nicholas (Alexis) Schlicksup; and two great grandchildren, Oliver and Luca.
Paul proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He earned a Bachelors in Philosophy in 1948 and a Masters of Arts in Social Sciences in 1953, both from the University of Chicago. Paul had a 35 year career teaching social studies for Gary Community School Corporation, from where he retired. After retiring from full-time teaching and moving to Peoria, Paul taught computer courses at Illinois Community College.
Paul was a strong proponent of education and encouraged his children and grandchildren to pursue their individual interests. He had a passion for reading and learning, and loved sharing books with his family. Paul was a man of strong principles, who worked tirelessly throughout life to teach and lead by example. He served as a role model for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
There will be no public visitation. Services will be private and inurnment will be at a later date. Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements. Paul's Memorial Website and online condolences may be accessed at www.masonfuneralhomes.com.
