WASHINGTON-Paul E. Habel, 85, of Washington passed away at 3:35am Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Unity Point Health-Methodist. He was born on January 9, 1931 in Quincy, IL the son of John and Margaret Vogt Habel. He married Ruby Arrowood on December 29, 1956 in Ashville, NC. Surviving are his wife, their two children Scott Habel of Chicago and Paula (Brent) Ringland of Washington. Also surviving is one granddaughter Madison Ringland of Washington, two sisters Alvera Roberts of St. Joseph, MO and Frieda Sibert of Sun City, AZ. He was preceded in death by three brothers, and one sister. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Airforce and the Air National Guard after 42 years of proudly serving his country. He taught math, science and industrial education in Peoria and Washington. He later worked as a millwright in Bettendorf, IA for many years retiring in 2008. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 464 AF&AM in Denver, IL. Paul was also a member of the Mohammad Shrine Temple in Bartonville, IL and the VFW Post 9016 in Washington. He attended Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington. Services will be 11am Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington with Pastor Dan Doty officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5pm until 7pm at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Additional visitation will be one-hour prior to his service at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be given to Illinois Cancer Care in Peoria or to Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington.
