Norma Jean Boone

Norma Jean Boone, 97, of Metamora, IL passed away at 2:40 pm on Friday, May 29, 2026 at Snyder Village Memory Care in Metamora.

She was born on February 17, 1929, in Carlisle, IN, to Russell D. and Josie (Detty) Berry. She married Norval N. Boone on November 26, 1948 in Sullivan County, IN. He preceded her in death along with her parents, daughter Geri Boone Burwell, and sisters Mildred Banther, Margaret Berry, Helen Risley, Rachel Carrithers, and Martha Trimble.

Surviving are her son, Jeff (Vicki) Boone of Metamora; grandchildren, Keri Dehn, Jillian (Brandon) Graves, Nicholas (Rosie) Boone, and Lauren Boone; and six great-grandchildren.

Norma took great pride in being a homemaker. She later worked part-time as a housekeeper for the George and Nancy Seidler family in Peoria, IL. Norma’s home was always spotless so it made sense she would enjoy doing it for others! Norma was also especially known for her cooking and baking skills. Her grandchildren remember this fondly. She loved when the grandkids came to stay. She would spoil them with whatever their hearts desired.

She also loved working in her yard with her garden and landscaping. Norma, alongside her husband Norval, were very active in their church, Carlisle United Methodist Church in Carlisle, IN. Norma loved the Lord and her time serving in the church. She was a member of the Spring Bay American Legion Post 1115.

Sadly, Norma developed dementia years ago and would spend the rest of her days in Snyder Village which was close to her son and daughter-in-law. Norma could be heard belting out her favorite church song, “The Old Rugged Cross” during church times at Snyder. She enjoyed her time there and the activities. She certainly kept the staff on their toes with her antics from time to time. On one particular day, Norma “escaped” with another resident in her car and went on a county wide adventure before finally returning!

The family would like to thank everyone at Snyder Village who touched mom’s life and ours for the phenomenal care she received. She truly was in the best of hands while there.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family service will be held with burial at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Carlisle, IN, where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband.
