Norbert J. Adams, 92, of Metamora, IL passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. He was born on April 6, 1928 to Albert and Mary (Kiesewetter) Adams. He married Wilma Scheirer, the love of his life, on June 5, 1954 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora. Their love held true 60 years of marriage until her passing on July 20, 2014.
He is survived by his son, Stanley (April Droege) Adams of Metamora and his daughter, Janet Adams of Wilmington, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Danny (Sarah) Adams, Nathan (Melissa) Adams, John Adams, Michael Adams, Justin Shepherd, Ashley (Greg) Dischler, and Avery Adams; five great-grandchildren, Beckett, Olivia, Sloan, Bowen, and Logan; three brothers, Carl (Mary) Adams, Ray (Marilyn) Adams, and Bill (Dorothy) Adams; and one sister, Lillian (Arnold) Grebner. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son David Adams, granddaughter Eileen Adams, one brother Joe (Shirley) Adams, and two sisters Ester (Ernest) Schaidle and Amelia (Rudy) Noe. The family felt God's hand in his passing, as he passed the same day as his mother had 61 years ago.
He grew up on a farm where he learned the essence of hard work and integrity which carried on throughout his life. He was the head custodian at Metamora Township High School where he retired and began his own carpentry business, Adams Construction and Repair. He was always ready to hire someone in need of work and willing to teach them the trade. He was also willing to lend a helping hand to volunteer for the church or those in need.
Norbert was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora. He served in the Korean War, was a member of the Holy Name Men's Society, and was a trustee of St. Mary's Credit Union for over 35 years. He also volunteered with the Teens Encounter Christ Mission trips to help build and repair churches and schools on Standing Rock Indian Reservation.
He enjoyed farming, helping others, the Chicago Cubs, and the Bradley Braves. His greatest joy came from watching all his grandchildren grow up to be amazing men and women; he was proud of them all. In his later years, his love extended to his great-grandchildren and the way they would love on him.
He leaves a legacy of love, faith, family, friends, and integrity. We love you Dad, grandpa, great-grandpapa! "Well done, good and faithful servant." We will never want to say goodbye...so we will say until we are together again. Love you always.
