Nathanael H. Mooningham, Sr. 88, of Washington, IL, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born on Friday, March 12, 1937, in Elvins, MO, the son of Everett C. and Gladys I. Howard Mooningham. He married Carolyn J. Lee on October 2, 1982.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn of Washington, IL; children,  Betty (Jim) Dean of Union, MO; Susan (Keith) Renken of Deer Creek, IL; Bill Ewing of Pekin, IL; Vickie (Dane) Fields of Peoria, IL; Kenny Ewing of Sparland; and Sandy Pilger of Peoria Heights, IL. Further, surviving many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Everett (Brenda) Mooningham of Morton, IL, and John (Donna) Mooningham of Thomaville, MO; two sisters, Mary Campbell of West Plains, MO, and Linda Wilson of Pekin, IL. He was preceded in death by one son, J.R. Mooningham, and two sisters, Carolyn Mooningham and Ruth Mooningham.

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served with distinction before receiving an honorable discharge. His dedication to service continued as he served for 30 years in the 182nd Illinois Air National Guard in Bartronville.

Nathanael worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co., for 35 years. His work ethic and loyalty to the company were evident to all who worked alongside him. In 1991, he retired, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and camaraderie.

He was a devoted member of the Glad Tidings Assembly of God in East Peoria, passionately engaging in a variety of ministries that reflected his deep faith and commitment.  He was also a very Godly man who touched many lives.

Nathanael's interests outside of work were as diverse and rich as his professional life. He was a dedicated St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, and his enthusiasm for the game matched his unwavering support for his favorite team. His love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for deer hunting and fishing, where he found peace and solace in nature's beauty. Additionally, golfing and bowling were among his favorite pastimes, bringing him joy and a competitive spirit that permeated all aspects of his life.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 am on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington, with close family friend Rev. Monroe Johnson officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton, IL, with Military Honors rendered by the U.S. Air Force. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Washington Helps Its People (WHIP) or Teen Challenge Ministries. Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington has been entrusted with arrangements.
