Mr. Scharp was born on May 24, 1914, in Washington, IL, the son of Emma Thielbar Scharp. He graduated from Washington High School in 1932. He was a member of the Panthers football team for 1929-1931 and was a special honoree at the 75th anniversary celebration. On May 25, 1935, he married Alice Margaret Smith in Eureka. They were married for 70 years, until her death in 2006. They had three children, Barbara Mae, Janet Elizabeth, and David William. Mr. Scharp retired from Northwest Bank of Peoria in 1979 as Executive Vice President. Previously, he had worked for Cilco, Libby McNeil and Libby, the Oakford company, Eureka Bank, and Exchange National Bank of Columbia, MO. Mr. Scharp was preceded in death by his mother, by his wife, by two brothers, William Scharp of Peoria and Harold Scharp of Washington, and two sisters, Lorraine Scharp of Washington and Mae Scharp Hartley of Washington. He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Barbara and Ben Brubaker of Washington, IL, Janet and Greg Marshall of Huntley, IL, and David and Jeanette Scharp of Mission Viejo, CA, by nine grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Mr. Scharp belonged to Taylor Lodge, A.F. and A.M., for over sixty years, serving as Master in 1946; to Columbian Chapter #17, Royal Arch Masons; and St. Graal Community #12, Knights Templar, serving as Commander in 1970-71. He was a member of the Past Masters Club at Taylor Lodge and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Washington, IL, and a Charter member of the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class.
