Mona Marie Durst

Mona Marie Durst, 97, of Germantown Hills, IL passed away at 10:25 am on Friday, March 17, 2017 at her residence. She was born on February 2, 1920 in Metamora, IL to William and Olivia (Waldschmidt) Regele. She married Milton J. Durst on April 14, 1941 in Peoria, IL. He passed away on April 2, 1988. Surviving are her children William J. Durst of Savanna, IL, Thomas D. (Karen) Durst of Germantown Hills, and Janeen M. (Mike) Zimmerman of Washington, IL; grandchildren Melissa Durst of Chicago, Amy (Tony) Gutzwiller of Batesville, IN, Bradley (Jacqueline) Durst of Powell, OH, Jody (Dave) Daily of Gulf Breeze, FL, Kerri (Matt) Machut of Evanston, IL, Troy Zimmerman of Washington, IL, and Kristen (Matt) Liggett of Chicago; fifteen great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Clara Regele of Ft. Meyers, FL and June Burling of Carthage, IL. She was preceded in death by brothers Kenneth and Dean Regele and sister Eunice Schwab. Mona was a beautician. She had volunteered for many years at Proctor Hospital (almost 5,000 hours). She enjoyed making candy at Christmas, sewing, and cross stitch. She sewed over 250 lovey hearts for the infants in the Prentice Northwestern Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the private nurses from Nurses Caring For People who provided excellent care for Mona at home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in rural Metamora with Father Julius Turyatoranwa officiating. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 with visitation to follow from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Mason Funeral Home Germantown Hills Chapel in Germantown Hills. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Germantown Hills Fire Fighters Association, 313 Prairie Avenue, Germantown Hills, IL 61548.
