EAST PEORIA?Michael Bernard Fandel, 59, of East Peoria peacefully passed away at 9:55 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2012 at Methodist Medical Center of Peoria surrounded by his loving family. Mike was born on December 4, 1952 in Peoria, the son of Bernard and Arvilla (Kiesewetter) Fandel then raised and lived his life in the Germantown Hills community. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Metz on July 17, 2004 in Peoria Betty survives. Also surviving is a son, Michael (Anne Marie) Fandel, II, of Oak Lawn, IL; two daughters, Heidi Howe of Peoria and Heather (Jeff) Beeson of North Aurora. In addition Mike is survived by a step-daughter, Lisa Metz of Peoria and two step-sons, Brian (Renee) Metz and Jeff (Tebbert Nichols) Metz of Peoria; five grandchildren, Sedona Howe of Peoria, Nathan Fandel of Oak Lawn, Maleyia Porter, Brody and Emma Metz of Peoria with a new grandson, Johnathon Michael, due June 1, 2012; a sister Susan (Allan) Campbell of East Peoria and two brothers, Richard (Sandy) Fandel and Gene (Cathy) Fandel. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mike graduated from St. Mary?s in Metamora, Spalding Institute (1970) in Peoria and Bradley University (1974) in Peoria. Mike talked often of his experiences and friends at Mel?s Market during his high school days and about helping his parents raise tomatoes and raspberries for the farmer?s market. After graduation Mike worked for various public and private accounting firms, Hagerty Steel and most recently Sanders Tools where he established some of his most precious friendships. Mike loved acrylic painting, crafts, collecting antiques, wood working, traveling and gardening. He grew his own tomatoes and raspberries and some vegetables in his green house with the help of his granddaughter. A celebration of Mike?s life will be held on Tuesday, April 24 at 10 a.m. at Mason Funeral Home Germantown Hills Chapel with Pastor Paul Arnold officiating. Burial will follow services at St. Mary of Lourde?s Cemetery in Germantown Hills. Visitation for Mike will be on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and half hour prior to services on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to either University Methodist Church in Peoria or the American Cancer Society.
