Michael James Baker

Michael James Baker, 67, of East Peoria, IL passed away at 3:15 pm on Friday, May 1, 2020 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on May 21, 1952 in Pekin, IL to Vera (Callaway) Leitner. He married Lenora Dee Rekart on April 15, 1972 at Ascension Lutheran Church in East Peoria, IL.

Surviving are his wife Dee of East Peoria; sons Donald M. Baker, Douglas J. (Nicole) Baker, and Daniel R. (Kayla) Baker; grandchildren Abby, Dakotah, Arianna, Landon Baker, Trisdan Baker, Braylen Baker, and Stefan Kierski; mother Vera Leitner; brothers Dean (Vickie) Baker, Darrell (Caroline) Leitner, Philip (Daphney) Leitner, and Darrin (Lori) Leitner; sisters Marcia (Rocky) DeWitt, Terry Payne, Myra (Steven) Chastain, and Lynette (Rob) Hampton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-father Philip Leitner.

Michael was a U.S. Marine Veteran. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 649 and worked at United Ready Mix. He had been a police officer in Bayview Gardens and also a Woodford County Deputy. Michael was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Roanoke, IL.
