Merle J. Strickler, 95, of Metamora passed away at 8:40 pm on Monday, September 22, 2014 at Snyder Village. He was born on May 26, 1919 in Peoria to John and Marie (Meeker) Strickler. He married Betty Klawitter on January 21, 1967 in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are his sons, David (Judy) Strickler and Donald (Mary) Strickler, both of Peoria; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister Velma (Dick) Crowley of Peoria. He was preceded in death by daughter Diane Strickler, grandson Matthew Strickler, and two brothers. Merle was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II and receiving a Silver Star. He was a general foreman with WABCO. He was a member of the WABCO Retirees Club and the VFW. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Washington. He loved to golf, bowl and travel. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 11:00 am at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel with Reverend Tom Heren officiating with visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Peoria. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Our Savior Lutheran Church or to Snyder Village. Online condolences at www.masonfuneralhomes.com
