Melvin John Stewart age 86 of Washburn, Illinois passed away at 8:30am Tuesday September 17, 2013 at his residence. He was born February 24, 1927 in Harrisburg, Oregon to Oscar and Viola (Hostetler) Stewart. He married Lela Hostetler on Feburary 14, 1952 in Roanoke and she survives. Melvin is survived by one daughter Nancy (Don) Kennell of Washburn, one son Steve (Jan) Stewart of Eureka, nine grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Ruth Kropf, Mildred Kropf and Pauline Scheffel all of Oregon. Two brothers, Lafe (Ruth) Stewart of Decatur and Danny (Lana) Stewart of Oregon. He was preceded in death by a son John Stewart, a grandson Howard Kennell and a brother Elwyn Stewart. Melvin worked many years being employed at Kropf and Seed Company in Oregon, Ulrich Manufacturing Company, and Rivinius Inc. He was a member of Roanoke Mennonite Church. A Memorial service will be at 11:00am Saturday September 21, 2013 at Roanoke Mennonite Church with Reverend Dennis Kennell officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5pm until 7pm at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel and also one hour prior to services at church. Private family graveside services will take place Saturday morning at Roanoke Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Apostolic Christian Home Roanoke.
