Melvin D. Allen

Melvin D. Allen, 84, of Spring Bay, IL passed away at 10:50 pm on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at his residence. He was born on October 14, 1931 in LowPoint, IL to Leslie W. and Anna K. (Harber) Allen. He married Loretta M. Easley on January 20, 1952 in Peoria, IL. She survives. Also surviving are his children Vickie (Greg) Beoletto of Hudson, IL and Richard (Gale) Allen of Bayview Gardens; three grandchildren Amanda (James) Street, Richard (Sara) Beoletto, and Dylan Allen; and three great-grandchildren Cade, Jocelyn, and Sydney. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Melvin was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean War in 1952-1953. He was a self-employed truck driver for 46 years, retiring in 1993. He was a life long member of the Spring Bay American Legion Post #1115. Melvin enjoyed camping and woodworking. He loved his Army and Western movies, especially John Wayne, and country music. He never met a stranger and had a gift to gab. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 11:00 am at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home and also one hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Bay Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Spring Bay Legion.
