WASHINGTON?Edna Maxine Swanson, 94, of Washington, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015 at UnityPoint Health-Methodist. She was born in Cerro Gordo on July 22, 1920 to Luella Pearl Moore and was raised by her step-father Rudolph Lasco. Maxine married Samuel J. Maggio in 1938. She later married Howard "Swanie" Swanson who passed away in 1982. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Paul Werner; two sisters, Ruth Edgecomb and Frieda Bailey and a great, great grandson, Silas Snider. Surviving are one sister, Jean Smogorzewski of Portland, Oregon; two daughters, Madeline (Estel Schram) Snider of Marquette Heights and Sandy (Richard) Heiser of Culpeper, Va.; one son, Tony (Judy) Maggio of Washington; a stepson, Paul Swanson of Eminence, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Deborah Eastman, Jeff Snider, Kris Snider, Kevin Heiser, Keri Killion, Mindy Keller and Melissa Wireman; one step-granddaughter, Terry Thomson; 13 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Maxine worked several years at Hiram Walker and Sons Distillery. She and Swanie were former co-owners of Ike and Swanie?s Tap in Peoria. Maxine was a member of Calvary Evangelical Mennonite Church in Washington and held numerous leadership positions in Women in Mission where she had many opportunities to use her talent and passion for cooking and sewing. She served as president of Cambridge Estates Homeowners Association and past president of the Italian American Society. Maxine was a devoted Cub fan. Visitation will be on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015 from 2 to 4 pm at Calvary Evangelical Mennonite Church, 115 East Jefferson Street, Washington. Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Monday, Jan. 26 at Calvary Evangelical Mennonite Church with Pastor Ken Sistrunk officiating. The arrangements are under the direction of Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington.
