Matthew S. Gasser, 54, of Washington passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025, at OSF St. Francis medical Center in Peoria. He was born on June 23, 1971, in Peoria the son of Stephen and Marta Welliver Gasser.

Surviving are two daughters Amanda (Kenneth) Smith of blue Springs, Mo, and Katie Gasser of Washington. Also surviving are three grand children, Emma, Kaiden, and Kaylee Smith; his mother Marta (William) Finkle of Blue Springs, MO; one brother Benjamin (Renee) Gasser of Tremont, IL and one sister Lisa (Jihad) Khoury of Dubai, UAE. He was preceded in death by his father.

He was an enthusiastic sports fan, with a strong passion for Kansas City Chiefs football, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, Bradley Braves basketball, and Kansas State University Jayhawks. A lifelong lover of books and music, he could often be found with a good novel in hand and his beloved cat Oliver curled up beside him. Above all else, he cherished his daughters and grandchildren. His family was the center of his world. He never missed a chance to brag about them, viewing them as his most outstanding achievement. His quick wit and unforgettable smile could light up any room. His memory will live on in every joke shared, every book opened, and every heart he touched.

Visitation will be on Monday, November 10, 2025, from 4 pm until 6 pm at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington, with a funeral service to follow at 6 pm. Cremation will follow his service.
