WASHINGTON?Mary Rae Thommen, 91, of Washington, passed away at 2:50 p.m., Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Washington Christian Village. She was born on January 12, 1922 in Secor to Oakley and Stella (Hinthorne) Sloter. Mary Rae married Clyde Thommen in Bloomington on November 8, 1944. Clyde died on May 8, 1999. Among those surviving are her two sons, Bob (Chris) Thommen of Washington and Bill (Debbie) Thommen of Carmel, Indiana; one granddaughter, Jodi Swartzendruber of Tremont and two great grandchildren, Logan and Nick Swartzendruber. She was also preceded in death by an infant brother and sister plus a brother, Oakley. Mary Rae had worked as a bookkeeper for many years at Libby?s in Eureka, as well as being a homemaker and mother. She was a 1939 graduate of Eureka High School. Prior to going into Washington Christian Village, she loved to cook, visit with her friends and family and attend sporting events. Mary Rae was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Washington. In accordance with her wish?s, cremation rites have been accorded and a service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Tom Heren officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Private burial will be in the Roanoke Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Mary Rae may be directed to Washington Christian Village.
