Mary E. Meister

Mary E. Meister, 90, of Metamora, IL passed away at 9:30 pm on Monday, September 26, 2016 at Snyder Village in Metamora. She was born on March 28, 1926 in Woodford County, IL to William E. and Inez V. (Eckhoff) Pelz. She married Harold F. Meister on June 8, 1946 in Metamora, IL. He passed away on December 3, 1992 in Metamora. Surviving are her son John (Eleanor) of Metamora; granddaughters Amy Meister of Chillicothe and Kimberly (Gearald) Tague of Davenport, IA; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one step-granddaughter Lynne (Paul) Santos of Omaha, NE; five step-great-grandchildren; half-brothers Harold Pelz and Laverne Pelz both of Manson, IA; half-sisters Ruth Freese of Manson, IA, Shirley Ahlrichs of Storden, MN, Betty VanGundy, Verna Grant, and Janet Anderson all of Rockwell City, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, son William "Bill" Meister, sister Eleanor "Sis" Hess, brother Morris "Bud" Pelz, step-sister Lorene Leman, and half-brother Paul Pelz. Mary was a clerk at Metamora IGA and had worked at Bergner's Distribution Center and the Metamora Abatore. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Metamora and their Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering at Snyder Village and their Senior Center dinners, and St. Joseph's Nursing Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 30, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Metamora with Father Greg Jozefiak officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 10:30 am on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Metamora. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Mary's School or National Kidney Foundation of Illinois, 215 West Illinois Street, Suite 1C, Chicago, IL 60654.
