Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Canady

January 11, 1935 — December 31, 2016

Mary Elizabeth (Cline) Canady, known as Libby, was born January 11, 1935 in Richmond, Indiana to Erwin Curtis and Eunice Ellsworth (Brokaw) Cline. She and her twin brother Allen were the youngest of 5 children. She is survived by Allen Cline (Judy) who lives in Sarasota, Florida and her sister Dorothy Yunghans (Roland) who lives in Pitman, New Jersey. She is preceded in death by her brothers John Cline and Carroll Cline. Libby died December 31st peacefully at her home in Washington, Illinois after a wonderful Christmas holiday with her family.

Although Libby always considered herself an Indiana Hoosier, she also grew up in Springfield, Illinois. She attended Springfield High School (SHS class of 1953), Monticello College in Alton, Illinois and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. She met Arthur Canady (SHS class of '51) and they dated while he was attending the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy. Libby said that she knew when she first saw him that he was the one for her. They married in 1955 and lived happily ever after, and he survives.

Libby and Art raised 5 children: Denise Warner (Vince) of Peoria, IL, Richard Canady (Renee) of Arlington, VA, Perry Canady of Washington, IL Suzanna Gullett (Matt) of Tacoma, WA, and Mary (Mimi) Canady of San Diego, CA. Libby and Art are the proud grandparents of Paul Warner (32), Anne Warner (29), Abby Gullett (24), Allison Gullett (23), Sam Gullett (20), Breanna Canady (18), Julia Canady (16), and Shelton Canady (13).

Libby was an unassumingly kind and openly giving mother, wife, and longtime friend to many who inspired us all with laughter and whimsical creations. She loved Jesus and put the concerns of others ahead of hers. She was a long time member of Grace Bible Church in Washington where she often helped other families. Libby's creative soul paired perfectly with Art's practical nature to maintain a loving home in Washington for nearly 60 years.

Libby's family is greatly appreciative for the caring hospice nurses and staff from OSF and Snyder Village, who along with her family took care of Libby for several months comfortably in her home.
