Mary E. Mitzelfelt, 83, of Metamora, IL, passed away at 11:08 pm on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at her home, with her family by her side.
She was born on July 20, 1941, in Woodford County, IL, to Clarence and Josephine (Krumholz) Grebner. She married Clarence B. "Sonny" Mitzelfelt on June 22, 1963, at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in rural Metamora. He passed away on May 12, 2015.
Surviving are her daughter, Michelle (Ra'ed) Bani-Salman of Oak Lawn, IL; two sons, Christopher (Sherri) Mitzelfelt of Trivoli, IL and Curtis (Linda) Mitzelfelt of Winthrop Harbor, IL; seven grandchildren, Joshua Mitzelfelt, Jordon Mitzelfelt, Josie (Jake) Jepson, Andrew Mitzelfelt, Garrett Mitzelfelt, Sanad Bani-Salman, and Layth Bani-Salman; three sisters, Bernice Scheirer, Christine Gilles, and Evelyn McCormack; and two brothers, Raymond Grebner and Eugene Grebner. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Bernard Grebner and Donald Grebner, brother-in-law, Milton Scheirer, and sister-in-law, Helen Grebner.
Mary was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also active with the Old Settlers Pie Committee, Ladies Auxillary of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Auxillary, and was a Forrester.
Mary was a great baker who could prepare an awesome meal with no notice. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers. She loved Nascar, trips to Las Vegas or to the boat for a chance at winning at the slot machines. Mary enjoyed a good game of cards, especially Euchre, loved the outdoors, her garden, and canning.
Most importantly, Mary was a great wife, mom, grandmother, and aunt. Her love and compassion will be missed.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 3, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father David Kipfer officiating. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 3:30 pm on Thursday, January 2, 2025 with visitation to follow from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Metamora. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary's School, 400 West Chatham Street, Metamora, IL 61548 or to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 415 West Chatham Street, Metamora, IL 61548.
