Mary Florence (Betteridge) Poignant

Mary Florence Poignant, 71, of Washington, IL, passed away at 7:00 pm on Friday, December 22, 2023, at The Loft Rehabilitation and Nursing in Eureka, IL.

She was born on August 4, 1952, in Springfield, IL, to Rev. Bertram and Thelma (Darrall) Betteridge. She married Randy L. Poignant on August 22, 1987 in Spring Bay, IL.

Surviving are her husband, Randy of Washington; daughter, Christina Randall of Chillicothe, IL; son, Brent (Ashley) Randall of Hendersonville, TN; step-daughter, Joey Courtney of Pekin, IL; grandchildren, Anderson, Katelyn, and Beckham Randall; siblings, David (Mary Ann) Betteridge of Morton, IL, Ruth (Dave) Nystrom of Cave Creek, AZ, and John (Virginia) Betteridge of Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Paul Betteridge, sister, Elizabeth (Jim) Evers, and infant half-sister, Anne Louise Betteridge.

Mary had worked as a medical bookkeeper. Mary liked to shop, crochet, travel, and hike at parks. "Islands in the Stream" was Randy and Mary's song, even before they were married. Randy called her "Precious", she called him "Wolfe". They loved to watch the TV show "Beauty and the Beast" and in Randy's words it matched them perfectly, Mary the Beauty and Randy the Beast.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Mason Funeral Home Germantown Hills Chapel with Pastor Tanya Evans and Pastor Bob DeBolt officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to her service. Private family interment of ashes will be held at Lacon City Cemetery in Lacon, IL at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Wildlife Prairie State Park, 3826 North Taylor Road, Hanna City, IL 61536 or to RiversEdge United Methodist Church, 500 North Chicago Street, Spring Bay, IL 61611.
