WASHINGTON?Mary E. Arn, 79, of Washington, passed away at her home early Thursday morning, December 19, 2013. Mary was born on May 6, 1934 in Chicago to James and Josephine (Darda) Maloney. She married James Arn in Washington on July 18, 1980. Jim survives. Also surviving is one son, Peter (Karen) Wells of Williamsville; one sister/cousin, Dee (Norm) Wilken of Frankfort; five loving grandchildren, Rachel, Rebecca, Katherine, Christina and Ethan Wells and not to be forgetten is her home companion, Mr. Quigley. She was preceded in death by her son, John Wells. Mary had been a third grade teacher and librarian at John Hensey School. She retired from District 50 Schools in 1999. She had received her bachelors degree in education from Northern Illinois University in 1956 and earned her masters degree from Illinois State University in 1960. Mary was also a member of ADK Teachers Sorority. Mary was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington and always looked forward to her Monday independent Bible Study group. She enjoyed listening to music, especially opera or orchestra, Mary was also an avid reader, she enjoyed target shooting, scrapbooking and loved to shop at every opportunity. Mary had been a member of the Red Hat?s and was known as the "Hat Lady." The family asks ladies in attendance at the visitation and service to please wear a hat in memory of Mary. Funeral services for Mary will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, December 23, 2013 at Crossroads United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Goodell officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington and one hour prior to services on Monday. Cremation rites will be accorded following services and private inurnment will be in the Crossroads Columbarium at a later date. Memorials for Mary may be directed to either Crossroads United Methodist Church or Heartland Festival Orchestra.
