Mark Raithel, 70, of Morton, IL, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL.
Mark was born on March 19, 1955, in Baltimore, MD. He married Brenda Munstedt on May 5, 2000, in Pekin.
His wife, one daughter, Ruth Ann Whaley of Creve Coeur, IL, and two granddaughters, Sarah Whaley and Elizabeth Whaley, survive. His parents and one sister, Penny Raithel, preceded him in death.
For 45 years, Mark honed his skills as a pipefitter with Union Local 353 in Peoria. His colleagues respected him for his expertise and commitment to excellence. His work was not just a job; it was a craft that he performed with pride and precision, earning the admiration of all who knew him.
Mark's passion for the outdoors was unparalleled. He found solace and excitement in the embrace of nature, whether he was fishing in the quiet of dawn or duck hunting and goose hunting in the crisp morning air. Mark felt most alive during these moments in the wilderness and cherished every second of them.
Woodworking was another of Mark's talents. His friends affectionately dubbed him "Mr. Wizard" for his magical ability to transform simple wood into beautiful, functional art. Cabinets, entertainment centers, and countless other creations were all crafted with love and skill by his hands. Each piece reflected his dedication to his craft and his desire to bring joy to others through his work.
An avid collector, Mark's assortment of goose calls was more than a hobby; it reflected his love for the outdoors and the sport that brought him so much happiness. Each call in his collection had a story, a memory attached to it, and he treasured them all.
At Mark's request, cremation rites were accorded. A time to celebrate his life is scheduled for Saturday, July 5, 2025, from 1 pm until 4 pm at the Knights of Columbus in Morton. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to OSF Home Hospice or the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home. Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington has been entrusted with arrangements.
