Mark E. Ives, 59, of Crofton, Maryland, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012, at home following a long battle with brain cancer. Mark was born on March 9, 1953 in Augusta, Maine to Colonel M. R. Ives (USMC retired) and Joanne Best Ives. He married Carol J. Zimmerman in Washington, Illinois on August 1, 1976. Survived by his wife, Carol Zimmerman Ives; son, CPT David E. Ives of San Antonio, TX; daughter CPT Katherine E. Ives of Savannah, GA; parents, COL and Mrs. M. R. Ives of Knoxville, TN; and sister, Laura Ives Wiley of High Point, NC. Mark graduated from Kailua High School in Kailua, Hawaii in 1971. He attended the University of Illinois where he earned a degree in Economics in 1976. Mark went on to earn a Masters Degree in Accounting from Georgetown University in 1983. He also completed post-graduate work at the University of Chicago?s Graduate School of Business. Mark served in the United States Coast Guard from 1976 ? 1987. Upon completion of his service, he worked as a project manager for companies such as Westinghouse, Booz Allen Hamilton, Parsons, SAIC and CSC. Most recently, Mark worked as project manager for the Missile Defense Agency. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, taking vacations to Disney World, traveling, attending Jimmy Buffett concerts, and tinkering with his Mini Cooper. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington, IL with funeral services starting at 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery with military rites to be accorded.
