Marie Gross

WASHINGTON?Gladys Marie Gross, 93, formerly of Washington and Peoria, passed away peacefully at 7:45 a.m., Monday, November 11, 2013 at the Elmhurst Extended Care Center in Elmhurst, Illinois. Marie was born on November 2, 1920 in Peoria, Illinois to Robert and Nancy (Cox) Nyberg. On November 10, 1945 she married Ralph Gross in Peoria. Ralph passed away on January 17, 2005 in Washington after celebrating more than 59 years of marriage in the same home on Market Street in Washington. Among those surviving is her loving daughter, Joan (Donald) Hoff of Elmhurst; grandmother of James (Greta) Hoff, Daniel Hoff and Sara (John) Martino; great grandmother of Riley and Reece Hoff and Sofia and Nicholas Martino; dear daughter of the late Nancy and Mitchell "Shad" Shadoan; aunt of Dr. Thomas (Judy) Gross and Mary (Tony) Hart; great aunt of many nieces and nephews. Marie was a graduate of Woodruff High School in Peoria. Later working for the Standard Oil Company in Peoria then for Kimpling Ace Hardware in Washington until her retirement in her early 70?s. She was a member of Calvary Mennonite Church. Marie loved bowling, playing the piano and did beautiful stitchery. Prior to Marie moving to Elmhurst she was blessed for the loving care given by the staff at the Moehle Supportive Living Center and the Elmhurst Extended Care Center. A funeral service for Marie will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Josh Lehman officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Following burial a time of celebration, remembrance and sharing will be in the Washington Room on the Square, in Washington.
