Mariana Trovillion Thompson, of Metamora, IL formerly of Peoria, went home to her Lord on Sunday, April 7, 2013 in Metamora, IL. She was born February 7, 1926 in Brownfield, IL to Paul L., Sr. and Marian Wymore Trovillion. She married Herman D. Thompson on July 1, 1951. She is survived by her husband, Herman, of Metamora; her children: Dr. Michael (Dr. Jan) Thompson, Ames, IA; Dr. Stephen (Dr. Linda Jacobsen) Thompson, McLean, VA; Martha (Alan) Hahn, Mundelein, IL; Pat (Dan) Newsum, Phoenix, AZ; and Terry (David) Walker, Caledonia, IL; fifteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and her sister, Carolyn Alexander, Peoria, IL. Mariana was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Ned Trovillion and Dr. Paul Trovillion, Jr. Mariana attended Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and graduated from Murray State University. From her college years on, she remained an active member of the Baptist Student Union. She taught for Peoria Public Schools and later worked for Bradley University and Woodland Baptist Church. A member of Woodland Baptist Church in Peoria since 1949, she was a participant and leader in music ministry, children?s programs, missions and senior adult ministry. Mariana is best remembered for her skill and versatility as a musician: singing, directing choirs, and playing piano, organ, and handbells. She also nurtured musicianship in her children. She sang many years with the Illinois Baptist state choir, The Singing Illinoisans, and toured with the choir in the U.S. and Ecuador. She had the gift of hospitality, regularly opening her home to missionaries, Bradley students, and internationals. She loved to travel in the U.S. and overseas and to tend her garden at home. Funeral services will be 5:00pm on Friday, April 12, 2013, at Woodland Baptist Church, with Pastor Joel Newton and Pastor Jim Donahue officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00pm until 4:30pm also on Friday at the church. Burial is scheduled for 2:00pm, Saturday April 13, 2013, at Prospect Cemetery in Hodgeville, IL. Memorial donations may be given to Woodland Baptist Church.
