Marian Johnson, 93, of Washington, IL passed away at 3:50am Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria. She was born on April 28, 1923 on a farm near Olds, IA to Irvin and Helen Shelton Palm. Marian graduated from Olds High school in 1940 and then Augustana College in 1944. She also completed additional course work at the University of Omaha in Omaha, NE. Marian is survived by her husband of 71 years, the Rev. Dr. Francis Johnson who currently resides at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria, IL. She is also survived by one daughter Chris (Tom) Sleight of Washington, IL; one son Roland (Carol) Johnson of Woodlands, TX. Other surviving family members include grandchildren Brian (Souad) Sleight of Carlsbad, CA; Greg (Megan) Sleight of Chicago; Jeff Johnson of Shenandoah, TX; Kim (Brandon) Miller of Seabrook, TX. Also surviving are five great grandchildren; Katlin Johnson, Dahlia Sleight, Paxton and Hendrix Miller and William Sleight. Further surviving is one sister Bonnie (G.D.) Allie. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister and brother in law Arthur and Arlene Holmgren. Marian's teaching career included positions at Grand Junction, Griswold and Essex, IA and later at Washington High School where she taught until her 1988 retirement. Marian was an active member of her church choir at both Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Stanton, IA and at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington, IL. She served as a Sunday School teacher and Bible School teacher as well as a member of Morning Star and Powell Memorial Circles at her church. Funeral Services are scheduled for 11am, Monday, January 9, 2017 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St. in Washington, IL. Pastor John N. Bates and Pastor Youngshim Pitcher will officiate. Visitation will be one-hour prior to her service also at the church. Burial will follow her service at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be given to Lutheran Hillside Village, St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington, IL or St. Mark's Lutheran Church Parish Nurse Ministry.
