WASHINGTON...M. Katherine Powell, 91, formerly of Peoria, died at 12:15 a.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Washington Christian Village in Washington. She was born on Dec. 9, 1920 in Louisville, KY., to Blanche (Funk) and Ernest Stout. She married John Mitchell Powell on Jan. 19, 1942 in Louisville. John preceded her in death on June 18, 1999. Surviving are two daughters and one son-Mary Alice Weaver of Peoria; Marilyn (Ronald) Hunt and Stan (Angie) Powell of Washington; daughter-in-law, Michelle Powell of Creve Coeur, 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Katherine was also preceded in death by one son, Steven, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Katherine worked for 25 years as head cashier at the Bradley University Student Center. She was a Past Worthy Matron of Electa Chapter #175, O. E.S. and a 50+ year member of that organization. She had served as a P.T.A. president for both Tyng Grade and Trewyn Junior High Schools, was an election judge for over 10 years and headed the Mothers? March against Polio for her district. Funeral services for Katherine will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mason-White Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Gorby officiating. Burial will follow in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Washington Christian Village.
