Metamora

Lynn Eugene Elbert, 84, of Metamora, IL, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025 at 1:03 am at Snyder Village Health Center in Metamora, IL.  Lynn was born on December 14, 1940 in Peoria, IL, to Herman and Gertrude (Eichhorn) Elbert and married Sharon Lee Hill on September 10, 1966. Lynn was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon, his parents, and seven siblings: Rosemary, Bernice, Roberta, Roland, Marvin, Howard, and Joan.

Surviving are three children, Troy David (Carol) Elbert of Bloomington, IL, Andrew John (Martina) Elbert of Heinsberg, Germany, and Stephanie Louise Elbert Hardy of Palatine, IL.  Lynn and Sharon have six grandchildren, Jessica (Eric) Biehl, Troy Elbert II, Parker Elbert, Emerson Elbert, Aaron Hardy, and Meredith Hardy and two great-grandchildren, Elijah Biehl and Eleanor Biehl. He is also survived by his sister Doris Forney, brother Allen (Sarah) Elbert, and brother-in-law David (Nanci) Hill.

Lynn was the youngest boy of Herman and Gertrude Elbert's ten children and was raised in Metamora, IL.  After attending Metamora Township High School, Lynn served in the U.S. Army as an Artillery Surveyor from 1958 to 1962 and was in the U.S. Army reserve until 1968. Lynn returned to Metamora after serving in the U. S. Army and met the love of his life, Sharon Lee Hill. Lynn and Sharon were married on September 10, 1966, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora. He attended and graduated from Peoria Barber College in 1970. As proprietor of Elbert's Barber Shop from 1972 to 2018, Lynn enjoyed socializing with all of his clients.

Lynn proudly contributed to the community by serving on the St. Mary's School Athletic Board in the 1970's, was an active member of the American Legion Post 89, and was a member of St. Mary's Holy Name Society.  He was very involved at St. Mary's Catholic Church and never turned down a chance to volunteer at the food tent during Old Settlers Days. As a youth, Lynn was up early with a local milk route and paper route and that tradition continued with Troy and Andrew's newspaper routes. While raising his family, Lynn coached several Metamora Little League teams in the 1970s and early 1980s. As an avid sports fan of Metamora football, the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs, Lynn attended or watched as many games as he could. Lynn especially appreciated the many Elbert-Eichhorn family gatherings and reunions.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 10, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father David Kipfer officiating.
