Lucille A. Lotz, 88, of Metamora, IL, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024 at her residence at Snyder Village in Metamora, IL. She was born on December 19, 1935 to Everett and Gladys (Hess) Chalus. She married Merle Stanley Lotz on September 29, 1957 in Ottawa, IL. He passed away on January 30, 2019.
Lucille is survived by three daughters, Morene (Steven) Thompson of Tremont, IL, Renee DuBois of Metamora, IL, and Annette Howells of Puyallup, WA. "Grandma Lu" is also survived by twenty-three grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Blake Heman, and three brothers.
Lucille was born in Ottawa, IL and grew up on a farm in Utica, IL were she attended a one-room schoolhouse through the 8th grade. She graduated from Ottawa High School and went on to become a Dental Assistant. She and her beloved Merle raised their three beautiful daughters on 14 acres along the banks of the Vermillion River in Streator, Illinois. Riverview Acres was home to all manner of horses ranging from humble ponies to majestic Arabians. It was there Lucille tended her family and friends well along with an impressive flock of pigeons including tumblers, rollers, and other varieties. A school bus driver, she safely transported the entire enrollment of 40 students to and from rural Eagle School for 20 years.
After selling the farm, Merle and Lucille moved to a house in East Peoria situated on the Illinois River where they hosted their ever-growing number of grandchildren while endearing themselves to the local Lake Community. Later, they moved to Germantown Hills before finally settling in a cottage at Snyder Village in 2010.
Lucille always exhibited a positive, joyful, and playful spirit and was always keenly interested in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved a party, always insisting on ice cream, and was deeply devoted to her family. Cherished as a loving and faithful friend, she will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Lucille was a faithful member of Christian Union Church in Metamora.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Christian Union Church with Reverend Gary Salm officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to her service at 10:00 am, also on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Christian Union Church, 925 West Walnut Street, Metamora, IL 61548 or to Snyder Village Residents in Need Fund, 1200 East Partridge Street, Metamora, IL 61548.
