Louis D. (“Louie”) (“Pete”) Dean, 98, of Metamora, IL, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026 at Snyder Village Health Center in Metamora, IL.
He was born on February 19, 1928, in Seatonville, IL, to Clyde and Malissa (McCauley) Dean. He married Kathleen E. Rohman on August 5, 1950 in Peoria, IL. She passed away on February 18, 2017.
Surviving are his three children, Jack (Linda) Dean of Lowpoint, IL, Marcia (Gary) Staples of Peoria, IL, and Roger Dean of Metamora, IL; three grandchildren, Paul (Beth) Dean, Patrick (Amber) Dean, and Alison (Kevin Reynolds) Staples; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Edward Dean, four sisters, Clarice Rasbid, Mae Gall, Carol Starovasnik, and Rita Gibson; and four brothers, Norman Dean, John Dean, Dale Dean, and Kenneth Dean.
Louis was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He worked as a switchman for the Rock Island Railroad until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the North Pekin Amvets and a proud member of the Spring Bay American Legion. For many years, he donated blood and platelets to the American Red Cross. He was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals!
Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service for the burial of ashes for Louis will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Spring Bay Cemetery in Spring Bay with Deacon Terry Stalsberg officiating and military honors accorded. The ashes of his son, Ed, who died in 2020, will be interred alongside him. A Celebration of Life will follow at the East Peoria Boat Club, 707 Collins Lane, East Peoria, IL 61611. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Snyder Village Residents in Need Fund, 1200 East Partridge Street, Metamora, IL 61548 or to the Spring Bay American Legion Hall #1115, 500 Legion Lane, East Peoria, IL 61611.
