Lois Scherr

Lois E. Scherr, 83 of Washington passed away on October 21, 2025 in Suffolk, Virginia after relocating there in 2023.

Lois was born on July 27, 1942, in Rensselaer, IN, the daughter of Rose Ann (Tesch) Hodel and Reuben Frederick Hodel.

She married George M. Scherr on December 27, 1964, in Chenoa, IL. He passed away on October 13, 2014. One son David W. Scherr also preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son, Douglas (Lisa) Scherr of Portage, WI, and one daughter, Deborah (Shawn) McVey of Suffolk, VA. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Quentin Scherr, Jeremy Scherr, Claire (Kody) Frye and Collin McVey, along with one great granddaughter, August Scherr.

She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington. Her deep and unwavering faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she demonstrated God's love to everyone she met. Throughout her life, Lois maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, appreciation of beauty, love of family, friends, and her adoring pups. She cherished her family and the many friendships she developed over the course of her life. Her greatest joys also included watching her grandchildren and great-grandchild, and celebrating all their achievements, traveling, being a member of the Red Hat Society, baking, arts, crafts, and gardening. She had an extraordinary gift for making people feel welcome and feel like family. She never met a stranger, only a friend she had not met.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Pastor Bob Rasmus from St. Mark's Lutheran Church will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to her service. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be given to Washington Helps Its People (WHIP), Threads Hope and Love, or Pets for Seniors.
