Obituary

Linda Kay Skinner passed away on March 31, 2026, in Keller, Texas, at the age of 82, surrounded by family. Linda was a devoted and well-loved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, volunteer, friend, and neighbor, and is dearly missed.

Linda was born September 17, 1943, in Ogden, Utah, the youngest of three children of Deloris and Jack Berkenpas. After her graduation from Ogden High School in 1962, Linda worked as an administrative assistant at Hill Air Force Base near Ogden, where she met the love of her life, Ron Skinner, a U.S. Air Force pilot, whom she married in December 1966. During their marriage, Linda and Ron moved 11 times through ten states, including Hawaii and Alaska, following Ron’s aviation career, making new friends and experiencing adventures at every stop.Ron and Linda ultimately settled in Keller, near Fort Worth, in 1989, where Ron embarked on a second civilian flying career in corporate aviation.

Linda and Ron’s son, Chris, was born in 1971. Linda was a dedicated mother, working tirelessly to a create a stable and welcoming home, and together she and Ron generously loved, guided, and supported Chris in countless ways throughout their lives.

In addition to her work as a mother, Linda was also a committed volunteer, holding offices and serving in various capacities in Chris’s schools, military family organizations, and even The Reagan White House during Ron’s assignment in Washington, DC. After moving to Keller, Linda was involved in the Greater Keller Women’s Club through which she made many dear friends and actively supported several charitable organizations, including the Keller Library and Mealson Wheels. She especially enjoyed preparing countless silent auction items at the Club’s Annual Fashion Show & Luncheon, where she was recognized as an outstanding volunteer in 2009.

After Ron’s retirement, Linda and Ron enjoyed life in their quiet neighborhood in Keller. Ron,who loved to drive, joined Linda in her work with Meals on Wheels, and they also took numerous road trips to visit family and friends. But their favorite trips, by far, were those they made multiple times each year to Houston to visit their granddaughters, Sarah and Meredith.

As time passed and Ron’s health gradually declined, Linda became a dutiful caregiver to Ron until his death in December 2017. After his passing, with the help and support of many wonderful neighbors and friends, Linda continued to live proudly and independently at her home in Keller, enjoying calls with friends and family, listening to audiobooks, baking treats, and making soup and her famous strawberry jam.

Until the very end, Linda relished her life. Her regular Tuesday bridge gathering, group exercise classes at the Keller Senior Center, outings with friends, and visits with neighbors brought her much joy and were the highlights of her later days. Chris’s family continued to treasure many visits and special times with Grammy Linda, and her granddaughters were blessed to have such a happy, kind, and inspiring grandmother in their lives for almost 20 years.

The family would like to especially thank dear and always supportive neighbors of 31 years,Beth and Lanny Kee, and Sandy Hildebrand, who was a wonderful blessing of a caregiver and supported Linda with unending patience and kindness during her final days as she bravely battled cancer.

Linda is preceded in death by her husband of almost 51 years, Ron; her parents, Deloris and Jack Berkenpas; her brother, Jack Berkenpas of Ogden, Utah; her sister, Connie Holley of Ventura, California; and many dear friends. She is survived by her son Chris (Victoria) and granddaughters, Sarah and Meredith, as well as nieces, nephews and many close friends and neighbors.

A family graveside interment service celebrating Linda’s life will be held Saturday, May 16,2026, 3:00 p.m. at Glendale Cemetery in Washington, Illinois, Ron’s hometown and resting place. Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington has been entrusted with arrangements.
