Lilliann Louise Woods Achterberg, 80, of Germantown Hills, IL, passed away at 9:00pm Wednesday, January 4, 2017, surrounded by her husband and family at Lutheran Hillside Village. Lilliann was born on December 29, 1936, in Peoria, the daughter of John and Olga Woods. She married Ronald G. Achterberg on December 30, 1956, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Peoria. They were blessed to have just reached the milestone of their 60th wedding anniversary. After their marriage, they resided in Germany while Ronald was in the U.S. Army. They had fond memories of their time overseas exploring the surrounding countries. They were lucky enough to go back overseas and revisit many places in 2001. Surviving are her husband of Germantown Hills, their four children, Linda (Ray) Khattar of Metamora, Scott Achterberg of Chillicothe, Jennifer (Rocko) Johnson of Washington and John (Marie) Achterberg of Peoria. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, along with one brother John Woods of DesMoines, IA and one sister Janet Ashburn of Florida and one cousin Rodney (Kathy) Sass. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, a beloved aunt and uncle, Robert and Vera Sass, one brother and one nephew. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she was employed at Talman Home Federal Savings and Loan (formerly First Federal Savings and Loan) in the loan processing department, as well as assisting her husband in his custom home building business as a jack-of-all-trades and bookkeeper. Lilliann enjoyed working in the yard and would take on any adventure in travel, whether it be camping and hiking in the mountains of Colorado or looking for shells on the beaches of Sanibel Island, FL., or just spending time with her family. She was a kind and gentle soul who never had an unkind word to say about anyone. She will be greatly missed everyday Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11 am, Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 908 W. Hanssler Place in Peoria. Rev. Barry A. Long will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 until 10:45am Saturday also at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Central Illinois Parkinson's Support Group or to Mt.
