Lido Firmand, of Washington, Illinois, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, at the age of 88.

Born on May 5, 1938, in Peoria, Illinois, to Luigi "Frank" and Arcolina (Morrone) Firmand, whose family name was originally Fittipaldi before being changed following the family's immigration from Italy, Lido lived a life defined by hard work, integrity, generosity, and an unwavering devotion to his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Louis J. Firmand of Bloomington, Illinois, Michael O. Firmand of Germantown Hills, Illinois, and Alfred M. Firmand of Peoria Heights, Illinois; his sister, Delores Rita "Laura" Johnson of El Paso, Illinois; his baby sister, Adeline; his half sisters, Eileen (Edward) Porowski and Anna Delores (William) McKenzie; his sisters-in-law, Deanna Sue Firmand and Janice V. Firmand; and his brother-in-law, Walt Johnson.

On May 10, 1958, Lido married Carolyn, his loving wife of 68 years. Together, they built a life centered on family, hard work, and steadfast devotion to one another. Carolyn survives him, along with their children, Rick (Terry) Firmand and Lisa Sauder; grandchildren, Ryan (Carissa) Firmand, Kacy (Matt) Natale, Ross (Lauren) Firmand, and Nicole (James) Carrión-Rodríguez; and five cherished great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother, Martin Firmand of Peoria, Illinois; and two sisters-in-law, Jan Firmand of Peoria, Illinois, and Angie Firmand of Peoria Heights, Illinois.

An entrepreneur at heart, Lido's remarkable work ethic began early. As a young boy, he caddied for many of Peoria's most prominent figures, an experience that helped shape the determination and ambition he carried throughout his life. He later opened his own barber shop, where he built lasting relationships with his customers and community. For many years, he worked as a barber by day and for the Burlington Northern Railroad by night, dedicating himself tirelessly to providing for his family. True to his entrepreneurial spirit, he also pursued several side business ventures over the years, always embracing new opportunities with optimism and determination.

Outside of work, Lido enjoyed golfing, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, fishing, music, and cars. Yet those who knew him best will remember him most for his wisdom, quick wit, and generous spirit. His wisdom, thoughtful advice, and unique perspective on life's challenges will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Lido never met a stranger. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, offer thoughtful advice, or share a story that left others smiling. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend whose greatest pride was his family. His kindness, integrity, and example have left an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

He was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Tremont Community Center, 216 S. Sampson Street, Tremont, Illinois. Family and friends are invited to attend, and all are welcome as we gather to celebrate Lido's life and the lasting impact he had on those who knew and loved him.
