Lela Fern Stewart

Lela Fern Stewart, age 90, of Roanoke, IL passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke. She was born on October 4, 1925 in Cazenovia, IL to Ira and Velma (Ulrich) Hostetler. She married Melvin Stewart of Oregon on February 14, 1952 in Roanoke. Lela is survived by one daughter Nancy (Don) Kennell of Washburn; one son Steve (Jan) Stewart of Eureka; three brothers, Roy (Ruth) Hostetler of Roanoke, Raymond (Joanne) Hostetler of Eureka, and Kenneth Hostetler of Indianapolis, IN; a sister-in-law Mrs. Milton Hostetler of Albany, Oregon; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, son John Stewart, grandson Howard Kennell, two brothers Milton and Lawrence Hostetler, and two sisters Emma and Betty Hostetler. Lela was employed at the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke for 12 years and at Eureka Hospital for 10 years. She also worked in Home Health Care for Woodford County for 8 years. Lela gave loving care to her parents until their deaths. After her retirement she also gave private nursing care. Lela had a love and concern for people and remembered many with visits, calls, notes, cards, etc. Lela was a member of Roanoke Mennonite Church. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 22 at 11:00 am at Roanoke Mennonite Church with Dennis Kennell and Steve Ulrich officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel and also an hour prior to services at the church. Private family graveside services will take place Friday morning at Roanoke Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke.
