Larry G. Zobrist, 76, of Washington, IL passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017 at home with his family by his side.
He was born on January 12, 1941 in Normal, IL to the late Harold C. and Maurine A. (Moser) Zobrist. He married Peggy (Owens) Brown on January 4, 1980. She survives.
Surviving are his four children Jill Brown (Patrick) Kinney of South Pasadena, CA, Lynn Brown (Todd) Price of Centennial, CO, Laura (Scott) Moss of Shorewood, IL, and Jonathan (Maria Liang) of Chicago, IL; six grandchildren Aidan and Maeve Kinney, Ellie and Gavin Price, and Camden and Clara Moss.
He is also survived by seven brothers and sisters Harlan (Sue) Zobrist, Eldon (Jane) Zobrist, Dean (Joyce) Zobrist, Janet (Kent) Hodel and Joy (Steve) Kennell all of Metamora, Julia Zobrist of Washington, and Keith (Ann) Zobrist of Scottsdale, AZ; and two aunts Louise Moser of Mackinaw and Joanne Moser (Dave) Bossingham of Minier. Larry was also blessed with 65 nieces and nephews along with many cousins.
With an entrepreneurial spirit, Larry and his family ran the Metamora Abattoir for many years. He then co-owned Riverside Chevrolet in Chillicothe until his retirement in 2013.
He loved his hometown of Metamora, serving as President of the Metamora High School Board in the 1970's and could regularly be found in the stands cheering for the Redbirds. An avid sports fan, he found great joy seeing the Chicago Cubs – finally – win the 2016 World Series.
Larry lived in Washington with his family for decades and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Those who knew Larry will miss his gregarious personality, his generosity, and the hearty, delicious meals he loved to prepare.
The entire Zobrist Family is grateful to the OSF Hospice staff for their compassionate in-home care during Larry's final months.
