Larry Paul Jones

Larry Paul Jones, 86, of Morton, IL, formerly of Metamora, IL, passed away at 4:09 am on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at his residence.

He was born on October 15, 1937 in Havana Illinois to John R. and Ferne (Shirley) Jones. He married Coleen Joyce Broers on October 19, 1958 in Metamora, IL. She passed away on June 29, 2021.

Surviving are two sons, Curtis (Marcy) Jones of Bloomington and Chris (Amy) Jones of Morton; one daughter, Michelle (Nick) Kopley of Glenview, IL; six grandchildren, Alexandria Jones of Bloomington, Megan Jones and Abigail Jones both of Morton, Samantha Kopley, Kyriakos Kopley, and Alexander Kopley all of Glenview, IL; one brother, John Jones of Metamora; and three sisters, Shirley Mueser of Roanoke, IL, Jan Alig of Metamora, IL, and Lori Jones also of Metamora. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Terry and Jim Jones.

Larry graduated from Metamora High School in 1955. He excelled at baseball and also played basketball, football and was a member of the track team. Right after graduation Larry began working for Metamora Woodworking (Hallmark) where he spent his entire career. He retired in 1995 after 40 years.

He was a former member of Izaak Walton League, the Metamora Fire and Rescue department, Roanoke Bowling League, Metamora Golf League and Snag Creek Senior Golf League. He was also a member of Metamora Christian Union Church.

Larry was an avid sports fan his whole life. A die-hard Cubs fan who rarely missed a game. He also rooted for the Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls, Bradley Braves and the University of Illinois. He loved his family very much and they were a big part of his life. One of his greatest pleasures in retirement was watching his grandkids participate in their respective sports; gymnastics, baseball, softball and golf.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Christian Union Church in Metamora with Pastor Gary Salm officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until service time, also on Friday at the church. Burial will be in Clayton Township Cemetery in Benson, IL.
