August 13, 1932 — September 17, 2021

Ketra Gilbert Schefelbein of Peoria, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021, in Hopedale.

Ketra was born August 13, 1932, in Peoria, the daughter of Donald and Elmyra (Morrell) Gilbert. She married John T. Schefelbein on December 26, 1953, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, in Peoria. He preceded her in death, along with her parents and her brother, Jack.

She is survived by her children, William (Rita) Schefelbein of Tremont and Karen (Brent) Rebbec of Mapleton; and three grandchildren, who were the love of her life, William J Schefelbein and Brandon and Nicole Rebbec.

Ketra was a 1950 graduate of Peoria High School and received her Associate Degree from ICC in education. She donated much of her time to Columbia Grade School as President of the Mothers' Club. She volunteered at Methodist and Proctor Hospital Service Leagues, Peoria Garden Club, Boys Club of Peoria, First Board and Peoria Sisterhood. She served as president of Morning Glories and 9 Hole Golf Leagues. She was a 40-year member of the former Arcadia Presbyterian Church. She was very active in the church and also started a Girl Scout program there.

Ketra and John spent their retirement years on the golf course and on their numerous boats out of Detweiller Yacht Club. Their boating years were enriched by the many dear friends they met. Her husband of 56 years and her children and grandchildren enriched her life to the fullest.

Per Ketra's request, cremation rites have been accorded and a private burial of cremated remains will be at Mount Hawley Cemetery, next to her husband.

Memorial contributions may be made in Ketra's memory to St Jude Midwest Affiliate or Peoria Humane Society.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington.
