Katherine M. "Kate" Braun

Katherine M. "Kate" (Weers) Braun, 98, of Metamora, IL formally of Washburn, IL passed away at 8:30 pm on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Snyder Village, Metamora. She was born on August 28, 1917 at home on the family farm in rural Lowpoint, IL to Hero G. and Catherine (Harms) Weers. She married A. Arthur Braun on October 17, 1948. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1999. Surviving are her daughter Jolene K. (Braun) Pelton; two step-children; three step-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers, two nephews, and one niece. Kate was a stay-at-home mom until their daughter entered school. She then worked at the Lowpoint-Washburn school cafeteria, leaving as head cook in 1967. She also worked at the Snag Creek Golf Course lunch counter for several years. She greatly loved to cook, play golf, play pinochle, and bowl. While in Assisted Living at Snyder Village, her passion was playing penny bingo and king's-on-the-corner. She loved Gospel music, especially performed by The Stattler Brothers and The Gaithers. Kate was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and really will miss them winning the World Series in 2016. She was a past member of Washburn Christian Church and Metamora Christian Union Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel with Pastor Gary Salm officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Buckingham Cemetery, Washburn. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Snyder Village.
