Karen Ann Garber

Karen Ann Garber, 88, of Metamora, IL, passed away at 5:15 pm on Monday, July 27, 2026, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.

She was born on February 11, 1938, in Peoria, IL, to Ira R. and Mina V. (Sears) Summer. She married John J. Garber on October 27, 1956, in Washington, IL.

Surviving are her husband, John of Metamora; son Stephen (Claudia) Garber of Metamora; daughter, Sandra (Mike) Norris of Goodlettsville, TN; grandchildren, Codi, Blake and McKenzie (Alex); and one great-grandbaby on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Karen was a farmer’s wife who loved taking care of their home, children, or anything John needed help with. She was a 40-year volunteer for The Et Cetera Thrift Shop in Eureka, IL and a member of Metamora Mennonite Church. She enjoyed cross stitching and loved watching birds and the beautiful sunsets.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the Metamora Mennonite Church with Pastor Bob DeBolt officiating. A time of visiting with the family will be held from 10:00 am until time of her service, also on Saturday at the church. Burial of Ashes will be in Hickory Point Cemetery in Metamora at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Metamora Mennonite Church, 1393 Mennonite Road, Metamora, IL 61548 or to the Mennonite Central Committee, 21 South 12th Street, P.O.
