Karen Ellis

September 17, 1952 — November 20, 2022

Karen I. Ellis, 70, of Washington, IL, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022, at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born on September 17, 1952, in Peoria, IL, to her mother, Lois V. (Waid), and her father, John E. Matheny. She married John P. Ellis in 1968.

Karen is survived by one daughter, Shelly (Terry) Cunningham, two sons, Steve Ellis and Mike (Cathy) Ellis; three granddaughters, Chris (Carl) Burress, Shelby (Aaron) Carey, and Hayley (Jarrett) Kerker; one grandson, Jesse Brubaker; six adorable great-grandchildren; one sister Peggy Trick; four brothers, Larry Matheny, Roger Matheny, Ronald Matheny, and Sherman Matheny.

Her husband, parents; two sisters, Alice Smith and Linda Matheny; two brothers, Gerry Matheny and Harold Matheny; one granddaughter, Sarah (Cunningham) Brubaker; one son, Little John all preceded her in death.

Karen raised her three children, became a wonderful grandma, and spoiled her grandchildren. After raising her kids, she cared for four Yorky puppies over the years, spoiling them just as much. She found her greatest joy when spending time with her family. Her family knew she would be there, whether it was support in hard times, sound advice, or even a warm meal and an even warmer hug. Her family has been blessed to have her constant love and support.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at 10:00 am at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. Pastor James Frye will officiate. There will be no visitation.
