Joyce E. Knickerbocker, 82, of Metamora, IL passed away at 5:48 pm Monday, December 4, 2023, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria with her family by her side. She was born on July 9, 1941, in Peoria, IL. She was the daughter of Charles and Ethel Fardon Bayer. She married Gerald L. Knickerbocker Sr. in Washington, IL on May 1, 1960, and he passed away on October 27, 2012. One sister, JoAnn Woods, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her three children, Steven Knickerbocker of Metamora, Gerald "Nick" Knickerbocker, Jr. of Ft. Myers, FL, and Stacy Knickerbocker-Strum, of East Peoria, IL; five grandchildren, Adam, Amanda, Nichole, Jesse, and Jared; eight great-grandchildren, Blake, Taylor, Ian, Mariah, Jessa, Savannah, Kane, and Meadow. Also surviving are one brother James (Barbara) Bayer of Peoria.
Joyce's remarkable work ethic and formidable personality were the cornerstones of her professional life, where she was respected and admired. Her tenacity was matched only by her commitment to her family, whom she supported tirelessly, guiding her children and grandchildren with firmness and affection.
Her zest for life was evident in her diverse interests. She found joy in the roll of dice, the steps of a dance, and the gentle rock of a boat on the water. An avid angler, she often could be found with a line in the water, enjoying the serenity of nature. Family parties were a highlight for Joyce; her laughter and energy were infectious. Her talent for organizing memorable Christmas Eve gatherings became a cherished tradition that will be fondly remembered by those lucky enough to attend.
Music was a passion for Joyce, with the rhythms of Oldies providing the soundtrack to many happy moments. Her favorite tunes, "I'm No Angel" by Greg Allman and "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits, were a testament to her spirited and independent nature.
Those who knew Joyce would describe her as loving, kind, and generous. Her presence was a gift, and all will deeply feel her absence. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide those fortunate enough to have known her. Her life was a testament to the power of love and strength.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Monday, December 11, 2023, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Visitation will be one hour before her service at the funeral home.
