WASHINGTON?Joseph A. Rediger, Jr., 86, of Washington, passed away peacefully at 1:52 p.m., Monday, January 13, 2014 at Heartland at Riverview with his family by his side. Joe was born on October 16, 1927 in Aurora, Nebraska to Joseph and Anna (Springer) Rediger. Joe married Glenda R. Gundy in Washington on July 20, 1947. Together they enjoyed more than 63 years of marriage prior to Glenda passing away on May 26, 2011. Among those surviving are two sons, Stephen J. Rediger of Washington and Stanley B. (Carol) Rediger of Oak Hill, Virginia; one daughter, Shelly (George) Waters of Savannah, Georgia and eight loving grandchildren, Jason, Angela, Andrew, Stephen, Anna, Katherine, Erica and Elijah. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lester and one sister, Irene Arnett. Joe was a veteran having served in the U. S. Army during 1946 and 1947. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War. One highlight for Joe was being able to go on the Honor Flight out of Peoria this past June. He had retired in 1991 as a senior vice president of First Bank of Washington (now Heartland Bank & Trust) after 23 years with the bank. Joe had attended American Investment Corporation Training as part of his banking career. Prior to coming to Washington, Joe was involved with banking and lending at various institutions in the midwest. After Joe?s retirement he and Glenda did extensive traveling around the world, visiting four continents. He was an amateur photographer and would enjoy taking pictures of the places they visited and afterward Glenda would paint the pictures of their special memories of the trips. He also enjoyed attending rodeo?s and loved car racing, especially the Indy 500 and local stock car races. Joe enjoyed golfing and bowling; he had multiple hole in one?s and bowled on teams at Plaza Lanes in Washington. Joe was a member of Calvary Evangelical Mennonite Church in Washington where he had served in various leadership positions and had been a faithful member of the Washington Civic Club when it was active. Funeral services for Joe will be held on Friday, January 17, 2013 at 1:30 at Calvary Evangelical Mennonite Church with Pastor Ken Sistrunk officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mason-White Funeral Home and half hour prior to services at the church.
