WASHINGTON...John M. Crandall, 89, of Washington, passed away at 2:55 a.m., Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. John was born on January 16, 1922 in Piper City to William and Flossie Morris Crandall. He married Marilyn Jean Kerz in Bloomington on August 23, 1952. Marilyn survives. Also surviving are two sons, Dr. James Crandall of Waltham, MA and Bill (Karleen) Crandall of Guayaquil, Ecuador; one daughter Susan (Roger) Brown of Carmel, IN; six loving grandchildren, Emily, J.C., Jennifer, Jonathan, Steve and Sara and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. John retired from IBM where he had worked as an engineer for 35 years. During that time he received the IBM Community Action Award in 1975 and was named an IBM All-Star in 1978. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Alaska in the Army Air Force. John was a graduate of DeVry Institute in Chicago and also Bloomington X-Ray School. He was always active in the Washington community, serving eight years on the city council, 17 years on the Washington Rescue Squad and 44 years for ESDA. In addition to those activities he was a volunteer at Methodist Medical Center since 1980 and he loved finding time to work in his garden at home. John was a member of St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Washington where a Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with burial following in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington and one hour prior to mass at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials for John may be made to WHIP, Washington Rescue Squad or St. Patrick?s Church. Online condolences to the family may be made at www.masonfuneralhomes.com
