John Jr. Bachman, 100, of Cazenovia, IL, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on the evening of April 8, 2025 at his home. He was born on January 21, 1925 in Lowpoint, IL to John and Mary Bachman. He married his faithful, life-long wife, Betty Jane Schrock on June 17, 1949 in Washington, IL. She passed away on March 21, 2020.
John Jr. will be remembered by friends and family as a good-natured, hard-working man of God who lived with the upmost integrity and gentleness. Blessed with an inquisitive mind, engineering spirit, and skilled hands, John Jr. was able to successfully modify and build many of his own machines and equipment to suit his farming needs. Using a tractor, chopper, blower, and three wagons that he built himself, John Jr. served a fifty-mile radius with his custom silage chopping business for over fifty years.
He humbly lived out his Christian faith in his daily life on the farm as well as through his life-long membership at Metamora Mennonite Church, where he served as a Trustee. His spiritual legacy was cemented into the generations through faithfully reading the Scriptures and Daily Bread devotional to his family at breakfast every day. Family members, including his six children, ten grandchildren, and twenty-two great-grandchildren, brought John Jr. a great deal of joy and amusement.
Surviving are his children, Ron (Sue) Bachman of Lowpoint, IL, Betty (Greg) McCoy of Metamora, IL, Marj Bachman of Lowpoint, IL, John (Laurie) Bachman of Metamora, IL, Tonya (Drew) Frey of Goshen, IN, and step-sister, Orpha Schertz of Metamora, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Mattie Bachman, son Stanley Bachman, one sister, three brothers, one step-brother, and two step-sisters.
A Family Graveside Service will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Stewart Harmony Cemetery in Metamora, IL. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am with a Celebration of Life Gathering at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Cazenovia Mennonite Church with a potluck meal following.
