Jimmie Logan

April 15, 1938 — March 13, 2025

Washington, IL

Sunnyland/Washington, Illinois resident and local legend, Jimmie "Cowboy Jim" Neal Logan passed away on March 13, 2025 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, Illinois. He was born on April 15, 1938, in Henderson, TN to Edd and Iva Logan.

He married Jan Jenkins on May 2, 1992. He is survived by his sister Wanda Olson of Billings, MT, three children Barry (Karen) Logan of Shell Knob, MO; Lisa Logan (Arlie Green) of Myrtle Beach, SC; Angela (Bob) Ing of Benton, IL and his step-daughter Tracy (Ken) Humphrey of Peoria, IL. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Jason, Georgia, Ben, Christine, April, Lindy, Jenni, Alexis, David, Zach, Amelia, Kyle and Kelsey. He was also dearly loved by his 34 Great Grandchildren. Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Debra (Robert) Moretz, one  Granddaughter, Diane Wohlers as well as several beloved horses.

He and a friend started the Kiplinger Excavating business in the 1960s. Later he also owned his own business Logan Excavating. During this time he dedicated over 36 years to Caterpillar, retiring July 1992. After retiring from Caterpillar he continued his lifelong passion of digging in the dirt and driving heavy machinery with Schertz Excavating.

Jimmie will be wildly remembered for his old barn parties where he'd roast a hog and make his own BBQ sauce. He was also a longtime member of the Morton Riding Club. He and Jan spent much of their life together trail riding around central Illinois. In his retired years, he was passionate about his garden, pickling hot peppers and beets, and sharing with family and friends. Friends and family will reminisce about his old tavern stories he'd tell down at the Bunker or over a sip of homemade wine or moonshine in his tack room on the farm.

This old cowboy leaves behind a legacy of living life to the fullest and having a lot of fun while doing it. And he did it a lot.

Jimmie always said "If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space."

A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion in Washington, IL on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 1pm until 4pm. Arrangements by Mason-White Funeral Home, Washington, IL.
