Jerry McMorrow, 88, of Metamora, IL passed away peacefully at Snyder Village after being surrounded by family and friends prior to leaving us overnight on Monday, February 19, 2018.
He was born on August 24, 1929 in Peoria, IL to Walter and Myrtle (Trapp) McMorrow. He married his high school sweetheart, Jo Ann Greeley, in 1950. She preceded him in death on March 25, 2016. He had one brother, Dr. Thomas McMorrow, who also preceded him in death.
Jerry leaves behind to cherish his memory five children, Stan and Terri McMorrow, Rick and Mary McMorrow, Mike McMorrow, Debi and Mike Parks, and Dori and Kevin Gresham. He also has eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a brother and sister-in-law Bob and Ellen Greeley of Eureka.
Jerry was passionate about music and instilled that love in all of his children. He played the trombone in the Woodruff High School Band under the leadership of Larry Fogelberg. He also played the piano by ear at home. He was a Boy Scout leader and treated his family to many camping vacations in various scenic locations across the United States. He was an avid White Sox fan and enjoyed painting and working in the yard.
Jerry had a strong work ethic, sometimes working 2-3 jobs to support his family including Peoria Engraving, co-owner of Cameo Engraving, Peoria Journal Star, Ruppman Advertising, and finally retiring from The Agricultural Lab at the age of 80. After that, he volunteered at South Side Mission until he left to take care of his wife. He was a faithful and devoted caregiver to her.
He attended St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kickapoo, and most recently St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora. He loved Jesus and looked forward to spending eternity in Heaven with Jesus and Jo Ann. We are happy for Jerry, but will sadly miss his contagious smile and his always, positive attitude. Keep smiling Dad! We love you!
Cremation rights have been accorded in honor of Jerry's wishes. A Memorial Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel. The family would like to thank the staff at Snyder Village for their loving care and compassion and in lieu of flowers ask that memorial contributions be made to the Snyder Village Resident-in-Need Fund, 1200 East Partridge Street, Metamora, IL 61548.
