EUREKA - Jerry McElyea, 81, of Eureka, IL passed away Tuesday,  June 4, 2019, in the emergency room of Advocate Eureka Hospital.

He was born March 26, 1938, in Peoria IL, a son of Everett and Velma Jordan McElyea.  He married Marilyn (Little) Wernsman on February 15, 1992 in Eureka.  She passed away on February 18, 2006.  Also preceding her in death were his parents and one brother.

Surviving are two sisters, Marilyn Schoppenhorst of Florida and Marlis Hatton of Ohio.

He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army from 1961 until being honorably discharged in 1963. Jerry worked for Hiram Walker & Sons Distillery in Peoria for 22 years. He then worked as a crossing guard at Davenport Elementary Grade School and worked part time as a Driver for Mangold Ford both in Eureka.  Jerry was a life member of the Woodford County Historical Society. He was also active with the Eureka Garden Club, Peoria Astronomical Society, Taylor Lodge #98 AF & AM in Washington, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria and Peoria Mohammed Shriners. Jerry was also a member of Eureka Christian Church.

Cremation Rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 7:00pm, Sunday, June 23, 2019, with a time of fellowship to follow his service all at the Eureka Christian Church, 302 S. Main St, in Eureka.  There will be no visitation. Memorials can be made to the Eureka Christian Church.  Burial will be at a later date in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria.
